Employee Involvement

The Employee Involvement Committee (EIC) is the body that directs and controls employee involvement activity within Nationwide, bringing together business managers and Union Representatives to consult (and negotiate where required) on a range of employment and business issues. The EIC is also the formal body that agrees changes to employment terms and conditions in accordance with the Collective Agreement that exists between Nationwide and the NGSU. Changes to Terms and Conditions are announced by the EIC in Joint Statements.

The EIC meets on a quarterly basis but either Nationwide or NGSU can request further meetings as required. An Executive Director (ED) chairs the EIC; the NGSU General Secretary leads the team of Union Representatives. Matters of dispute that arise between Nationwide and NGSU are referred to the EIC for resolution via agreed internal mechanisms or to external conciliation and arbitration services.

The EIC delegates authority to discuss specific employment issues to eight business committees. These are:
  • Pensions Committee
  • Rewards Committee
  • Employee Policies and Procedures Committee
  • Health and Safety Committee
  • Training and Development Committee
  • Administration Centres Committee
  • Branch Network Committee - including sub regional committees
  • Diversity and Equality of Opportunity Comittee (DEOC)
Further Information

More
information about the EIC can be found on Nationwide's Intranet Site, including the Terms of Reference for each Committee, current members of the Committees and Minutes of Meetings.

Getting Involved

The EIC is an important channel for communication between Nationwide and the NGSU - with the Union representing employees. NGSU members have the opportunity to get involved in a number of ways. The most important way is to tell the Union about your views and concerns about working at Nationwide so that we can represent you effectively. You can do this by talking to your District (branch network) or Department Representative, talking to Union Representative who sits on a relevant Business Committee or sending your comments by email to ngsu@ngsu.org.uk.

Union Representatives who sit on the various Committees are appointed by the National Executive Committee (NEC). If you are interested in taking an active role please let us know. The NEC will seek to appoint Representatives who have skills and knowledge that is relevant to each Committee but training and guidance is provided by other Reps and Union employees.
