The National Executive Committee (NEC) is responsible for the overall administration and the implementation of Union policy as directed by the National Conference. Members of this Committee also form the Union team in negotiations with Management. The Committee normally has at least 6 meetings during a year.

The National Executive Committee is made up of the General Secretary, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, National Equality Officer, twelve National Regional Officers and 6 National Executive officers.
All posts on this Committee are for a two year period, with the exception of the General Secretary which is a full time post held for the five year period. In the event of more than one nomination being received for the individual posts (or more than six nominations for the Executive Officer positions) an election will be held and this will be conducted by the Electoral Reform (Ballot Services) Ltd on behalf of the Union.
All candidates for election must be members of the Union and have completed three years continuous membership from the date shown on their current membership certificate. Candidates for the National Regional Officer vacancies must work in the respective Region. All nominations for this Committee must be in writing and signed by the Proposer and Seconder and thirty supporting signatures by members of the Union, who in the case of National Regional Officers must also work in the respective Regions.
